Genealogy Services I will customize the service I provide to meet your specific goals. Whether you want to conduct the bulk of the research yourself or allow me to conduct the research, I will deliver a customized product that meets your family history needs. Specific Services Research Strategy Plans –Many of my clients intend to conduct the bulk of the research themselves, but need some advice on where to start and what resources might be available. I have developed and utilized a three-step model that is great for the do-it-yourselfer. In step one, I will help you get organized and share methods I have used over the years in my research. In step two, I will share advice and resources on how you can determine what is already known about your family. In step three, I will share many customized resources and approaches that are available to you to succeed in your research. This service takes 90 minutes to 2 hours and my fee is $60. Research Tips and Advice and “Brick Wall” Assistance – Whether you are a novice or a seasoned family history researcher, there are times when you just need some help. Perhaps you have hit a “brick wall” with a certain area of your research. Perhaps you just need some tips and advice regarding your research. I will share my knowledge and expertise to help you move your research forward. For this service my fee is $40 per hour with a one hour minimum. Conducting Research – Some of my clients want me to conduct some or all of the research on their family history. I utilize a four-phased approach for research of this type. However, I can conduct any phase of this research independently and customize specific research if you wish. Phase one - I will meet with you and gather all of the information you already know about your family. This usually takes 1-2 hours and there is no fee for the consultation. Phase two - With the information you provide, I will gather records and data that has been published on sites such as ancestry.com, familysearch.org, Fold3, and a variety of other sources. The data available on these sites includes census records, city directories and a limited amount of church, military and other records. With the information I gather, I will create family group sheets and a pedigree chart (family tree) of your family and provide you copies of all the records I obtain. This usually takes 3-6 hours, depending on how many family lines I am researching and the fee is $40 per hour. Some of my clients do not wish to pursue additional research beyond phase 2. Phase three – I will gather copies of U.S. vital records (birth, marriage, and death), church records, obituaries, probate records, military records, etc. from state and county agencies, churches, local newspapers, county histories, and libraries. I will add this information to your family tree and provide copies of all the records I obtain. This usually takes 3-6 hours again depending on how many family lines I am researching and the fee is $40 per hour. Phase four – I will gather copies of European vital records (birth, marriage, and death), church records, and other records from local, state and national archives, churches, and other sources. I will add this information to your family tree and provide copies of all the records I obtain. This usually takes 2-4 hours depending on how many family lines I am researching and the country where I am conducting the research. The fee is $40 per hour. Biographies and short stories– I will write biographies or short stories about one or more of your family members with the research information you or I have collected. With these biographies, I will place the individual in historical context in which they lived and blend dates with family stories to portray the personalities of the individual or family I am writing about. The biographies or short stories of individuals are usually about 10-15 pages per person and my fee is $15 per page. Speaking Engagements - I offer a one hour interactive presentation entitled "Genealogy Basics” that is ideal for your club or organization if you are looking for a speaker. The presentation is designed for the novice or casual family historian and provides helpful tips on how to get organized before starting your research, the basics of how to conduct family research, and an introduction to some of the many resources available to the family history researcher. I would welcome the opportunity to meet with your group or organization. There is no fee for this service. Please contact me for more information. I look forward to helping you discover your family story!
